The number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 17,265 after 1,553 new infections were reported in last 24 hours. The death count has also reached to 543. Amidst this, India is gearing up for selective relaxation in lockdown in non-containment areas from today onwards.
Over 4 lakh samples have been tested till now in India. On Sunday, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan stated that doubling rate of coronavirus cases has increased from the last three days before imposition of lockdown in March to 9.7 days. Approximately 2,546 people are recovered from the disease. Currently, there are 14,175 active COVID-19 patients in the country.
Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with almost 4,203 cases and 233 fatalities. The other states with most number of cases include Delhi (2,003), Tamil Nadu (1,477), Rajasthan (1,478), Madhya Pradesh (1,407), Gujarat (1,743), Uttar Pradesh (1,084) and Telangana (844).

According to the data from Johns Hopkins University, the number of COVID-19 cases has crossed 24 lakh while death count has reached to 1.65 lakh, globally. The US reported more than 7.5 lakh positive cases and death count above 40,000.
Spain has 198,674 cases and 20,453 deaths, Italy has 178,972 cases and 23,660 deaths, France has 154,098 cases and 19,718 deaths, Germany has 145,742 cases and 4,642 deaths and United Kingdom 121,172 cases and 16,060 deaths.
